WNY Health Care Companies Team Up To Offer H1N1 Flu Clinic

WHEATFIELD, NY - Health System Services and Passport Health of WNY teamed up to host a flu clinic on Friday, November 13, 2009. Vaccines for the scarce H1N1 virus were made available to Passport Health of WNY just days before, but word of the limited supply traveled fast. Phone lines lit up shortly after a local news station announced on Thursday that the vaccine would be available on a first come first served basis to the public on Friday.
“Our friends at Passport Health of WNY were in search of a convenient venue to administer these much needed H1N1 vaccines. We were happy to offer them space at our store, hosting it here just seemed like a natural fit”, explained Health System Services President Robert Minicucci.
Although the clinic was not scheduled to start until 11 am, more than 100 people were in line outside almost 3 hours before. By the time the doors opened approximately 500 people were on site along with much of the local media.
Passport Health of WNY Principal & Executive Director Joanna Daeschner, MS, RN stated, “We encourage those who are in a high risk category and may suffer serious complications from contracting H1N1 to get their shots first. The simple fact is there’s only a limited supply of vaccine available at this point, therefore, you’ll see people go to great lengths to receive it. Fortunately, we were able to administer these today and hopefully we’ll get the opportunity to host another clinic in the coming weeks”.
